FRESS:
[yiddish] To eat like an animal, i.e., quickly, noisily, and in great quantity.

Our Turkish friend was leaving the country so we had to take him to a place that symbolizes all that is America for his send off: Hooters.

Ah, Sara Hoots from Texas, I remember watching her win the Hooters pageant last year on ESPN. I was rooting for her the whole time. Unfortunately none of the waitresses in midtown NYC came close to resembling Ms. Hoots.
Thats ok, we were really there for the wings and pitchers of beer to go with it.
We got about 80 wings for our group, allowing us to sample all the different varieties. The standard "hot" was my favorite, though they were really more of a medium.
I was disappointed in myself for eating a lot less wings than I thought I would. During my first Hooters trip back in high school I ate more than any guy at the table.

We used a lot of paper towels.
I was day dreaming about my fried pickle order long before we were even seated.
Sitting at wooden table outside was nice, though we were farther from the Hooters girl action taking place inside.
A blackened fish sandwich disappointed and the burger was nothing special. The food and beer is all way overpriced, but still, its fun. The contagious cheeriness of the waitresses and grease laden food make for a few hours of escapist merriment. Sometimes the craving hits for an atmosphere that is "delightfully tacky, yet unrefined".

The food cart on the corner of 33th and 9th has always been a quick, cheap source for breakfast. The staff inside this little cart are so sweet. Recently they added a very exciting new item to the standard eggcheesesausageonaroll type of offering- breakfast tortas! For $3.50 chorizo is scrambled with egg and put on a roll. The cart people get this legit sausage from a Mexican guy in Brooklyn. The chorizo is not very spicy, which I suppose is appropriate for breakfast and they do offer jalepeno sauce if you like a.m. heartburn. Its a delicious alternative to stringy bacon or gristly breakfast sausage. The cart people have seen a huge response to this sandwich, so hopefully it will stick around for a while. The cart also offers deli meat sandwiches but closes up shop at noon each day.

Sometimes you have to say screw you to the road less traveled. A group of 8 of us headed to Carmine's for a birthday celebration. We were in the mood for big portions and looked forward to conquering the giant platters. We were promptly seated for our 8 oclock reservation. Carmine's does a good job at acommodating large groups and it was easy to snag our Friday reservation. Service was Speedy Gonzalez as I am sure would be important to help their table turnover. We ordered a few bottles of reasonably priced and reasonable tasting red wine. To start we kept it simple and got the caesar salad and fried calamari, you can't go wrong there. Had to get the salad to ensure some vitamins

and minerals in the meal, yea right- that thing was covered in dressing and packing the calories. Its almost embarrassing how much I liked both the salad and the calamari. We had the penne a la vodka, veal saltimbucca, and the chicken special of the day. I am guessing the secret behind everything being tasty is vats of butter. I think we did a good job at ordering here, we got a variety of flavors and were too stuffed for dessert. You better believe the small amount of leftovers made an ideal late night post-drinking snack.

Good ramen, worth going back. Exactly the carbs I needed as a post Passover meal.
Very quick with the ramen to-go orders. The half portion size is a nice option and leaves room for ordering other things. The regular size can last me two meals. The ginger in the hakata ramen was overpowering/distracting. I really enjoyed the noodle texture though. I was not really impressed with the quality of the takoyaki, although its nice they have that on the menu and maybe worth ordering if you have never eaten it. The dessert menu looks tasty and well priced, maybe I will try the panna cotta next time.
update: tried the panna cotta, it was tasty and home made and though listed as having strawberry puree on top, it was definitely rhubarb which is ever better
also tried the shoyu ramen which was good and much better if you add vinegar. hakata is my preference though.
